How it works
Planning your Session
The first decision to make when you're booking a session is which type of newborn session you would like. I offer both "Fresh 48" and "Lifestyle Newborn" sessions. So, what are those!? Fresh 48 sessions take place in the first few days of birth in the hospital or birth space. I will be on call for these sessions since babies are on their own schedules! I will make sure my schedule is open in the weeks surrounding your due date to make sure I'm available for you when I get the call! I will come to the hospital or wherever you gave birth and document that time for you. A "Lifestyle Newborn" session will take place in your home. The timing can be more flexible for these sessions and can take place any time in the first couple months of life, so we can usually plan a date ahead of time.
I will send you over a questionnaire so I can get to know you can your family a little better before our session but for newborn sessions I won't ask you to do much in the way of planning - you certainly have enough on your plate as it is! If you'd like baby to wear a special outfit, headband, be wrapped in a special blanket, etc. that's absolutely lovely and you can bring that along to the hospital or have it ready in your home. If not, your baby is wonderful as is and your photos will reflect that. A simple white onesie is always a perfect choice for beautiful photos as well. The key thing is, no need to stress about your photos, just enjoy your new baby and leave the rest to me!
At your Session
I don't set a time limit for sessions but newborn sessions will typically take around an hour. I don't like to have a time limit and focus on results. I never want you to feel rushed during your session or like we weren't able to get the shots we wanted because of a time limit. I also know that when you're working with babies, you have to be flexible! I know that baby might be fussy and I may need to wait a bit to capture that sweet sleepy image or to catch that split second where they peep open their eyes. I'm on their schedule!
During your session I will take posed portraits as well as candid/documentary images. I will take posed shots of you holding your new baby and will also take some naturally-posed photos of baby alone. This just simply means lying down in a position they are comfortable - I may just lightly wrap them or ask you to just turn their head slightly or put a special blanket underneath them for a different shot. I will also take lots of detail images of their precious fingers and toes and all their precious little features. I always get tons of documentary shots of you taking care of your new baby as well - wrapping them, changing their diaper, bottle feeding, or nursing (if you're comfortable). Part of what I ask you in the questionnaire is what kinds of shots you are comfortable with me taking so don't stress about any surprises during your session. I will go in knowing how to capture this time for you in a way that makes you feel comfortable.
After Your Session
After your session I will edit your images and deliver them to you in a private online gallery in about 2 weeks! You can download all of your images from here and use your print credit that came with your session to purchase prints and products straight from your gallery. They are printed at a professional lab and checked by me to ensure the best quality. You will also have printing rights for all of your images and be able to print on your own at a consumer lab as well, if you like!
