How it works
Planning your Session
When you book a session, the first thing I will do is send you over a short "location quiz" to find the perfect location for your family. I've scouted several locations throughout central Maryland for the prettiest lighting and setting. If you already have a location in mind, that's great too! We can even do your session at your own home (inside, out, or both!) if you like. For most locations we will pick a time around sunrise or sunset so you will have the most flattering lighting for your session. I'll also ask you to fill out a brief questionnaire about your family so I can get to know you a little before our session and find out what's important to you for me to capture. I'm all about making each session as unique and special as the family.
Once we've chosen a date and location, we can start to think about what you'll wear. I know for some people this can be stressful so I offer a style guide and am always available for advice as you're putting together outfits. If you already have outfits chosen or prefer to choose your outfits by yourself, that's perfect too. I'm always here but never want to put pressure on anyone about styling. This is your session - I want you to look and feel your best and have photos that reflect how special your family is.
At your Session
I don't set a time limit for sessions but they will typically last around 45-60 minutes for sessions with immediate family and a little longer (around 60-90 minutes) for an extended family session. I don't like to have a time limit for session and focus on results. I never want you to feel rushed during your session or like we weren't able to get the shots we wanted because of a time limit. I also know that when you're working with kids, you have to be flexible! Some kids need a little time to warm up and I want to make sure we give them enough time so we get the most authentic photos of them being their perfect selves.
During your session we will take some posed images with lots of playing, fun, and candids in between. I always make sure to get portraits of each child, shots of the siblings together, and each parent with the kids in addition to photos of your whole family. Extended family sessions will take a little longer since we will do this for each family, as well as include grandparents in some special shots. You will also have an opportunity before the session to discuss any shots in particular that are important to you.
At the end of your session, I will always leave some time for your family to just completely relax and have some fun doing an activity together (dance party, bubbles, a soccer match, playing red light green light, or anything else your family loves to do) and completely ignore me! :) This gives me an opportunity to take some documentary images for you of your family just having fun together.
After Your Session
After your session I will edit your images and deliver them to you in a private online gallery in about 2 weeks! You can download all of your images from here as well as purchase prints and products straight from your gallery if you wish. They are printed at a professional lab and checked by me to ensure the best quality. You will also have printing rights for all of your images and be able to print on your own at a consumer lab as well, if you like!
